While diet and exercise are the cornerstones of healthy weight management, certain natural compounds can support weight management as well. MetaSlim CLA with Green Tea provides clinically studied compounds that work together to help support weight management.* Tonalin® CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) supports a healthy body composition by suppressing an enzyme that stores fat.* It is clinically shown to help reduce body fat while increasing lean muscle mass.
Green tea contains EGCG (Epigallocatechin-3-gallate), which helps support healthy fat metabolism.* As with any weight management supplement, best results are achieved when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a naturally occurring fatty acid that has been shown in research and clinical studies to reduce body fat and increase muscle mass. Researchers believe we are getting much less CLA in our diets that in previous decades. With the added fat burning support of Green Tea extract, this MetaSlim formula offers weight management assistance to complement your diet and exercise program.
CLA: Conjugated Linoleic Acid
"A study published in the American Journal of Physiology hints that CLA could be the jack-of-all-trades among natural fat fighters. In lab mice fed low or high fat diets, CLA pared down body fat, curbed appetite and boosted the metabolism." - Let's Live, September 2000
CLA is a slightly altered form of the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid. Over 200 studies have shown that CLA may play a very important role not only in weight loss, but also in helping to fight certain cancers, insulin resistance, and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). In promoting weight loss, double-blind studies show an increase in lean muscle mass and a decrease in percentage body fat compared to placebo group. The subjects taking CLA also reported less fatigue, dizziness and nausea than those on the placebo.
Researchers believe that CLA helps block fat cells in the body from filling up by interfering with the fat-storing enzyme, lipoprotein lipase as well as by increasing the sensitivity of cells to insulin. CLA is also believed to help burn fat by revving up muscle metabolism and increase lean muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body uses, speeding up the fat burning process.
CLA is found naturally occurring in meat and dairy products when the cattle and cows consume a diet rich in grasses. Now that livestock are primarily grain fed, the CLA has virtually disappeared out of dairy products and the meat we consume. As a result, we may be increasing our risk for a variety of health concerns making supplementation a practical choice.
Green Tea
Green tea is loaded with polyphenols, compounds with strong antioxidant properties that may inhibit cancer cell growth. Epigallocatechin 3-0-gallate is the polyphenol with the most antioxidant activity. Most human studies on green tea assess its cancer-preventive properties and at least ten studies show that green tea consumption is protective against the development of esophageal, stomach, lung, colorectal, bladder, gastric and pancreatic cancers.
Research demonstrates that green tea guards against cardiovascular disease in many ways. Green tea lowers total cholesterol levels and improves the cholesterol profile (the ratio of LDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol), reduces platelet aggregation, and lowers blood pressure. The polyphenols in green tea have also been shown to lessen the risk of several types of cancers, stimulate the production of several immune system cells, and have antibacterial properties, even against the bacteria that cause dental plaque.
Green tea polyphenols support weight management in three ways. First, they prolong thermogenesis, the burning of dietary fuels (sugar & fat) beyond basic metabolic energy needs. Thermogenesis is a biological mechanism to help maintain body weight. Second, green tea polyphenols have been shown to increase the percent of fat-fuel within thermogenesis, so that more fat is be burned with green tea polyphenols than if they were not present. Third, green tea polyphenols reduce fat absorption by inhibiting digestive breakdown of fat. Green tea also contains caffeine, which also helps prolong thermogenesis. The overall effect of green tea is to support weight management in conjunction with sensible dietary modification and modest exercise.
